When I led worship at my church in Athens yesterday, I had some of the most fun I've ever had in the 10 years I've been a musician. I had the opportunity to lead worship for Summer Craze at Upstreet, the children's ministry at Athens Church. Now, this was no VBS for kids, or a short little children's sermon in the middle of the adult service. This was an experience packed with high energy, fist pumping, music blaring, dancing and singing fun! It was the first time I've ever led worship without my guitar or a band, but it was so much fun! The kids were awesome! We danced, we laughed, we shouted, and we even played a little air guitar. My nephew is apart of Upstreet, and it was so much fun to lead worship for him and his group.
Upstreet is the elementary school environment at Athens Church, where the Kindergarten through 5th grade meet in small groups each week. At Upstreet, children learn from the Bible, they learn to worship through singing, and they create friendships with other kids and adult leaders. As the children transition from elementary school to middle school, they hope that each child has learned and lived three principles.
1. I need to make the WISE choice
2. I can TRUST GOD no matter what
3. I should TREAT OTHERS the way I want to be treated
I am so glad that I had the opportunity to lead worship for Upstreet! It was an awesome and fun experience that I can't wait to enjoy again!
