Greetings from the road! Today I'm writing from Charleston, SC. It's sunny and about 68 degrees and there is a steady breeze blowing. I'm sitting in a park overlooking the Charleston Harbor. It's beautiful.
I have a crush on this city. It's true, I'll admit it. I didn't realize how beautiful Charleston was until today. I knew of the history and landmarks, and have visited the city twice before, but I fell in love today!
I love the feeling you get walking around Charleston. It's like a scene from a movie. It's a big city, yet it feels like a small town. The historic buildings, the aged trees adorned with spanish moss, and the cobble stone alleys demand your attention as you walk the streets. There are people everywhere. Some are tourists site seeing, others are relaxing, and most are working. I found myself doing all three! My day has been very entertaining and relaxing, but at the same time I'm working! I know, you can be jealous if you'd like.
Last night FBC of Monck's Corner, SC (Charleston area) invited me to play a concert. I met some of the greatest people, and we had a wonderful time. After the concert we went to dinner, and then I crashed at the hotel. This morning, I woke up early and headed into Charleston. On the advice of some of my new friends, I explored the city and found the parks and the shopping. I spent the morning getting acquainted with my map and the streets. I shopped, walked, and talked to different people. For lunch, I met up with my good friend Jon Black, and his fiance Lauren. They took me to their favorite local lunch spot. Jon is also a touring musician (www.jonblackmusic.com) so we talked about music, touring, friendships, and God.
After lunch, we parted ways and I headed through the heart of the city towards the Battery. The Battery is located on the harbor, and is the section of town that is very historic. The restored homes of Charleston line the streets of the bay and face the harbor. It's beautiful.
Needless to say, my vacation/work in Charleston has been great. I'm headed to Columbia, SC tonight for a concert, and then it's back to Athens. I've enjoyed my short sprint on the road this week, and am very thankful that I can play music and travel full time. The people of FBC Monck's Corner were awesome, and I appreciate their hospitality! Go to Charleston if you've never been!
